Goldfish Living in a Deep Fryer

Water and oil doesn't mix, so there is no heat from convection, only conduction, which is very slow compared to convection. Also, the bottom layer of the oil is cool compared to the top. Oxygen comes from a bubbler, and the fish eat the scraps of solids that fall through the oil to the bottom.
